Teammate Patrick Viste is ordering our first metal samples.  Our team will perform tensile and fatigue testing to collect data.  If the data continues to support our hypothesis, we

Plan

  1. Order all plates (1-hole for fatigue test, 6-hole for both tensile test and fatigue test) together? Ans,  Order a sample set that can be obtained as quickly as possible in order to verify dimensions and test procedures for both tensile and dynamic testing.

  • Goal:
    • Tensile testing: Reliable data that measures the displacement v. force of six-hole metal plates, smooth and pyramid textured, on sawbones using a tensile testing machine.  10 pairs of data sets, for a total of 20 tests.  One plate per specimen for a total of 20 six-hole plates.
    • Dynamic testing: Reliable data that measure the cycles v force of two one-hole metal plates, smooth and pyramid textured, on sawbones on a dynamic testing machine.  10 pairs of data sets, for a total of 20 tests.  Two plates mounted on each specimen for a total of 40 one-hole plates.

  • Parallel Activities (Week 2-3):
    • Tensile testing.  Finalize specimen design,  Derek, Fidel and Cliff.
      • Submit purchase orders for sample set of metal six-hole plates, record name, address and phone of company contact, obtain delivery date.
      • While waiting on delivery of metal plates, manufacture plastic six-hole plates and practice the test procedure and data analysis for textured and smooth parts.  Document testing procedure and data analysis.
    • Dynamic testing:  Finalize specimen design, order a sample of one hole metal plates. Patrick, Adam and Justin.
      • Submit purchase orders for sample set of one-hole metal plates, record name, address and phone of company contact, obtain delivery date.
      • While waiting on delivery of metal plates, manufacture plastic one-hole plates and practice the test procedure and data analysis for textured and smooth parts.  Document testing procedure and data analysis.

  • Parallel Activities (Week 3-4):
    • Tensile testing.  Measure the dimensions of the purchased six-hole metal plate and verify tolerances.  If corrections are needed implement the revised design and order another set.  If no corrections are needed, order the remaining parts.  Derek, Fidel and Cliff.
      • Assemble the test specimens for the sample set
      • Conduct the tensile tests.
      • Perform the data analysis
      • Document the procedure and data analysis.
    • Dynamic testing:  Measure the dimensions of the purchased one-hole metal plates and verify tolerances. If corrections are needed implement the revised design and order another set.  If no corrections are needed, order the remaining parts. Patrick, Adam and Justin.
